Race Format

The Bill Braxton Memorial Regatta is a USRowing sanctioned regatta.

Completed waivers for all competitors, volunteers and potential substitutes for crews are required. Minors under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian complete and sign the waiver form.

Distances

High School 

  • Qualifying heats - HS Trophy events only: 1900m [sequential bow numbers will be provided]

  • HS Novice events: 1500m [bow numbers are the responsibility of each club/school]; 7 lane course

  • All other events: 2000m [bow numbers are the responsibility of each club/school]; 7 lane course

College

  • All races: 2000m [bow numbers are the responsibility of each club/school]; 7 lane course


Trophy Events

Trophies are awarded for the following events:

  • Rafferty Cup – Men's HS 4+

  • Braxton Family Trophy – Women's HS 4+

  • Coletta Family Trophy – Men's HS Varsity 8+

  • Theresa Braxton Trophy – Women's HS Varsity 8+

  • Bill Braxton Memorial Trophy – Men’s Collegiate Varsity 8+

If qualifying heats are needed for these events, they will be scheduled before all other races, at the start of the regatta.

All trophy races will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.

Medals and trophies will be awarded at the gazebo near the finish tower.

High School Trophy Races

If more than six boats are entered, qualifying races will be run head-race style, going off at 15 second intervals in two lanes. The top 6 times will advance to the final.

College Trophy Race

If more than six boats are entered, there will be heats, with the first 3 or 2 (depending on the number of entries) in each heat advancing to the final.


Classifications

Lightweight
A rower weighing no more than 160 lbs. (men) or 130 lbs. (women)

High School
Any student currently enrolled in a four year secondary school

Novice
Male and female athletes in their first year of rowing or coxing. "First year" is defined as the first 12 months of competition


Bow Numbers

For head-style heats, all boats are required to have bow numbers. These will be supplied by the local organizing committee (LOC) and available for pick up at the launch dock area 15 minutes before and after the coach and coxswain’s meeting.

All crews in non-head style races are responsible for supplying their own bow numbers. If a boat does not have a bow number, a limited number will be available for sale from the Dock Master. They are $10 for a set with numbers #1-6.


Check-In

There is no check-in.

To submit last-minute lineup changes, find a race representative the morning of the regatta. They will be available for assistance at the gazebo near the launch docks from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m.
